The monastery of St. Eleousa was built in the 10th century A.C. inside the "Deep Canyon", where the verdure is unlimitted. The monastery is not viewable from distance. Those who built it, chose this particular location for the safety of the monastery towards the pirates. After the period of iconoclasm, a shepherd discovered there incidentally, a cave, in which the icon of Virgin Mary was hidden through the years: "Virgin Mary of the Hidden Cave" that was later named as Eleousa.

Olympia Golden Beach is located 7 km far from the monastery.
